Course Descriptions for Veritas Homeschool Community 2026/2027

Nursery
Maximum cost: $125 per student
Pre-K - 4th Grade
Maximum cost: $300 for the first student, $250 for additional
Bible: Students learn the beauty of hiding God’s word in their hearts as they work to memorize 26 scriptures over the course of the school year.
Public Speaking: Students will have the opportunity to hone this important skill from a young age as they prepare a short presentation each week on an assigned topic while working on public speaking skills like eye contact, projection, gestures, visual aids, etc.
Memory work: We will be using Claritas Publishing, which provides a Classical, Christ-Centered, and Comprehensive time where we will seek to cultivate wisdom and virtue by nourishing the child’s soul on truth, goodness, and beauty so that, in Christ, the student is enabled to better know, glorify, and enjoy God. Our Memory Work aligns with four historical cycles and consists of Scripture, Latin, English Grammar , Math, Science, History, Geography, Timeline, and Hymns. We will be utilizing cycle 4: The Modern Era for the 2026/27 school year.
Art: Students will learn about the elements of art and design as well as study the artwork of masters that correspond with cycle 4, the Modern Era, as they create art projects each week.
Music: During our chapel time each week, students will learn hymns that coincide with the Claritas memory work curriculum.
Science: Students will dig deeper into their cycle 4 science memory work with activities that cover topics physics and much more! Students will also create their own science notebooks with pages to “Sketch, Narrate, Write, and Draw.”
ABC/123 Review: During this class students are given hands on exercises to practice reading and math skills in a fun and tactile environment. Class will be split into PreK-1 and 2nd-3rd if enrollment numbers allow to better accommodate learning abilities.
Free Play and Rest: This is an optional, structured time of rest and free play in the time block after lunch. Experience has taught us that these younger students thrive best with this schedule. Time for rest and play allows them to learn the important skill of quieting themselves and also gives them room for the valuable experience of free play with other children and outdoor time set within a structured block of time.
4th - 6th grade
Maximum cost: $300 per student

Pre-requisite: students in these 4-6th grade classes need to be reading at an ‘end of year’ (EOY) third grade reading level. Please look closely at the curriculums we will be using and the sample lessons when determining the right class schedule for your children. If you are unsure and need help determining this, please reach out to us and we will be happy to assist you.

Grammar/Writing: Using Fix It! Grammar and the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) curriculum, students will improve their knowledge of the parts of speech while learning to write with structure and style. This theme-based writing curriculum helps students learn to take notes, retell narrative stories, summarize references, write from pictures, compose essays, and much more.
Science: Utilizing Apologia Anatomy/Physiology curriculum and the accompanying Junior Notebooking Journal students will enjoy this elementary-level Science course that points students to God as they study anatomy and physiology which showcases the intricacy and design of the human body.
Ancient/World History: Utilizing Notgrass’ From Adam to Us Part 1 curriculum, which will introduce students to ancient civilizations, the Great Empires, the early Church, and the Middle Ages. Class projects and assignments and accompanying map-work will accompany this class.
Music: During our chapel time each week, students will learn hymns that coincide with the Claritas memory work curriculum.
Electives (optional): Electives are how we culminate the Community day at Veritas. This is a time of parent-led learning with an emphasis on learning a skill or participating in an event that is both fun and engaging for the group. Some examples of electives from last year include: drawing, cooking, theater, volleyball, etiquette and community service projects. Cost is determined by the parent/teacher leading the elective and paid directly to him/her.
7th-8th Grade

Bible - Free: Students are led through a book of the Bible, helping them learn to study scripture. A mom or dad with a heart for expository teaching leads this class while students have the opportunity to rotate through assisting in leading.
World Geography & Cartography (1 HS Credit) - $75: Utilizing Memoria Press Geography I, II, III, and US, Students will pursue a classical study of the world’s geography, including map drawing and learning about "history's headlines" that explore each location’s historical context, and a "tour of today" that covers the present situation.
American History 1 or 2 (rotates every other year) (2-Years = 1 HS Credit) - $60: In this class, students will utilize Notgrass American History by Charlene Notgrass (this curriculum can count toward high school credit) as they dive into history, geography, and literature from the history of the U.S. beginning with life in America before Europeans came and continuing through the first years after the Civil War. Daily lessons will guide students chronologically through American history, highlighting key events, people, and places. This includes textbook material as well as numerous original documents, speeches, poems, stories, and hymns from American history.
Exposition - $75: Students will use the Lost Tools of Writing curriculum to begin learning persuasive writing. This style of writing will be taught in 7th through 9th grade. Students will learn how to identify and express their message clearly and vividly. This important skill will help students to succeed in college if that is their path, and it will also help them develop cognitive habits related to decision making, and communication with friends and foes alike. This is a skill that will transfer to debate, public speaking, law, medicine, or ministry. The foundation for the essays they will write are novels that are rich in language, history and critical thinking. Novels TBD.
Anatomy, Physiology & Nutrition(7-12th Grade) (1.5 HS Credits) - $100: This high school science course will explore the design of the human body from a creation perspective, from the simplest parts to some of the most complex functions, your students will learn about the Reproductive, Lymphatic, Renal, Endocrine, Integumentary, and Digestive Systems and discover that the design of the human body cannot possibly be an accident. This course will be augmented with an in depth study of human nutrition.
HIGHSCHOOL LEVEL COURSES: While we understand that not all students will be college bound, our classes are geared toward preparing students to enter college with the skills necessary for success. Younger students (7-8th grades) are welcome to move up and take these classes.

World History + Bible (1.5 HS Credits) - $75: Utilizing the Notgrass curriculum, "Exploring World History" students will be presented with ancient, medieval, and modern history from the perspective of faith in God and respect for His Word. This course offers a thorough survey of Western civilization with significant coverage of Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Completing the full course provides your child with a year's high school credit in World History, and a half credit in Bible.
British Lit and Exposition in Writing (10/11th Grade) (1 HS Credit) - $75: Students will use the Lost Tools of Writing curriculum to continue learning persuasive writing. Chemistry (with Labs) (1 HS Credit) - $150: Students in this class will receive a strong foundation in chemistry with the goal of preparing them for college-level studies. Utilizing Berean Builder’s chemistry curriculum, this course fosters in-depth discussions and provides clear and thorough explanations of concepts.
* It is recommended that students taking this course be proficient in algebra.

Pre-Calculus (11/12th Grade) (1 HS Credit) - (Cost TBD Pending Enrollment #s): Utilizing the online platform of Shormann Math, this class will provide a framework for students to complete the Pre-Calc curriculum, helping to keep students accountable and provide class time for questions. Shormann math Features an integrated approach to math that includes technology applications and real-world word problems. It is an updated curriculum that provides excellent preparation for the new, redesigned PSAT and SAT, as well as ACT and CLEP exams.
