Pre-K, Kinder, and 1st Grade Course Descriptions: Total class cost $75* per child

Bible:

Using Bible Stories to Read, students will listen to a short devotion and use the story to help answer questions to demonstrate understanding. Students will have a Bible verse to focus on each week as well as a fun song that correlates with the daily lesson.

Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts:

The primary curriculum used in Pre-K, Kinder, and 1st is Five in a Row. Using classic children’s books, your student will explore a literature-based unit study to cover social studies, character, language arts, math, science and art. Literature selections contain positive moral stories that reflect Biblical values. Although this is a stand-alone academic enrichment, parents can read the same story at home throughout the week along-side your reading curriculum. Parents will be given a list of which book is being read each week.

Number Sense:

Using the math skills taught at home, students will practice their number skills through games and movement in an effort to build a strong foundation and understanding of mathematical basics. This will be a time to enhance the learning that is done at home.

Science/Stem:

Using a Stem Science kit, students will work together to overcome simple scientific problems using household items such as toilet paper rolls, rubber bands, or little toy cars. This will be an engaging time to explore different ways to solve a problem.

Hands on Learning:

We all buy manipulatives, puzzles, and games that we are sure to use in our homeschool days- and somehow we never find time to pull them out of the closet. This class is when we will finally put those learning games and toys to good use! This will be a quick, yet packed full time of learning for your little students.

Quiet Class:

Students will learn the skill of playing quietly through a variety of activities such as building blocks, stretching, or even kinetic sand. This will be a time to slow down, rest, and reset while also keeping their hands and minds at work. When we learn to be still, we can learn to listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit. (This will be in place of a traditional “nap-time.”)

2nd and 3rd Grade Course Descriptions: Total class cost $115* per child.

Total AT HOME required curriculum cost: $5-$13

Total AT HOME optional curriculum cost $83 (In addition to the class cost, parents will be given the opportunity to extend the curriculum at home throughout the week, which will include additional curriculum  cost. However, parents can choose to use this course as a stand alone academic enrichment.)

Bible:

In the 2nd-3rd grade Bible Class, Students will memorize one scripture a month using the Seeds Family Worship songs. The scripture will be used in discussions that tie into learning for the day. Students will practice different ways to study and remember information. Get ready for lots of singing, dancing, and hiding God’s word in your heart.

Number Sense:

Using the math skills taught at home, students will practice their mathematical skills through a variety of games. This will be a time to enhance the mathematical concepts used at home.

History/Geography:

World History will come alive as students read through book 1 of Story of the World. Each week the class will read through the next chapter in the book. That will take us to a different part of the world (geography) and we will bring the event and culture to life with a weekly hands on activity. Your student will be exposed to historical events all over the world that shaped the world as we know it today. (*Parents will have the option to purchase a test booklet that coincides with the textbook. It is not required. This would be completed at home - not in class.)

Grammar:

In the 2nd-3rd grade Grammar class, students will begin to learn what makes up a sentence and the 8 parts of speech. Students will begin to identify the parts of speech in various sentences. The concepts in the class will be focused on learning definitions that will allow them to become familiar with topics that they will dig deeper into in later grades. Games and activities will be used to encourage the love of the English language.

Science:

Master Books: God’s Design Life- The Human Body In God’s Design, The Human Body, is an enrichment class where students will learn how they were designed by God and created in His image. The human body is an incredibly complex and created wonder. This year we will learn about the amazing functions of each system through reading, scripture, hands on experiments, songs and dance! And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Genesis 2:7

Reading Comprehension/Poetry/Public Speaking:

Each class day your students will work on their detective skills with short story mysteries that they will solve together. Students will also work on their memorization and speaking skills with poems throughout the year. Throughout the year students will work on skills such as voice level, body language, and speaking with confidence. This is an academic enrichment course intended to build confidence in students' listening skills, public speaking skills, and reading comprehension.

Quarterly Elective:

All about Games

This first quarter is an exciting way to learn- through games. Students will play board games, card games, and whole class games. Not only will students work on communication skills, being a gracious winner or loser, and teamwork, they will be learning academic skills too. Kids will love the time playing with their friends.

Anatomy and Physiology Class:

Apologia: Young Explorers Series Exploring Creation with Anatomy & Physiology

Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology is an enrichment class for 4th-6th graders designed to point students to the reality that every cell and system in their body was intentionally and intricately designed and created by God. Students will begin by studying cells, the most basic building blocks of life- and then move on to study several of the major human body systems including the skeletal system, muscular system, digestive system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, nervous and endocrine systems, integumentary system, and lymphatic and immune systems. They will also study blood, the senses, human growth and development, and health and nutrition. Through weekly scripture and fun hands-on experiments, projects, songs, and suggested reading and journaling, elementary students will have a strong introduction to how God created the human body. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are your works, And my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:14

Grammar:

Essentials English Language, 4th edition

Students will memorize: the parts of speech, sentence patterns, purposes and structures, and rules for constructing a sentence. They will learn to use that information to sort and analyze sentences and understand the importance of the English language and how it applies to other languages and most importantly in understanding God’s Living Word.

Number Sense:

This class is a brief, yet productive time where students work on increasing their math skills in speed and agility. Fun games are played as a team or competing against other classmates with the goal being for each child to work on improving their individual skills.

Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW)- U.S. History-Based Writing:

In the 4th-6th grade class, the primary purpose is for students to learn structure and style in writing. As they move through various American History themes and topics, they incrementally introduce and review the models of structure and elements of style found in the Institute for Excellence in Writing’s Teaching Writing: Structure and Style. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12

History and Geography:

America’s Story 1 and Draw the USA is an upper elementary history and geography enrichment class. Students will learn how to draw the United States of America little by little. By practicing a little each day, they will feel accomplished after learning how to draw the United States of America. They will be able to identify the states and capitals as well as some of the key features in our country. In class discussion will enrich what they read at home during the week. Poetry, drama, projects, art, and presentations are a few ways that students will experience America’s Story this year. They will learn how God used courageous and imperfect men across cultures and decades to brave unknown waters, conquer and tame wild lands, and be willing to fight to their death while defending their belief that God created all men equal, and gave them the unalienable rights of: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. The history of America is not a clear cut path, but rather a complex web that only a Sovereign God could have allowed to come into being. Students will discover that it is by His grace that America is still a nation today. We will begin our journey in the Old World with Christopher Columbus and end in the New World in the great state of Texas. We will see how there is nothing new under the sun as Ecclesiastes 1:9 tells us, and despite the trials this nation and world have had, with Christ, there is truly wonderful joy ahead 1 Peter 1:6.

7th and 8th Grade Course Descriptions:

In 7th and 8th grade you have the option to attend all offered classes OR you may choose, at a minimum, three classes for your student to attend. If they choose to not attend all offered classes a monitored study hall block will be offered where they can work on other school work. Cost is done per class as follows below. Curriculum is required for the class and also listed below.

Exposition/Writing and Literature: $25 class cost, $120 additional curriculum cost, approximately $80 for novels.

Lost Tools of Writing

Using the Lost Tools of Writing teachers guide and student workbook the students will learn the basics or grow on their skills of persuasive writing. They will read notable literature every three weeks, using the text they will build a persuasive essay about whether the characters or authors should or should not have made certain choices. The students will be responsible for reading the literature, coming to class ready to discuss, writing assigned essays, and presenting their essays to the class. They will receive grades based on participation, discussion, elocution, and writing skills gained.

American History and Mock Trial: $25 class cost, $110 additional curriculum cost

Using The America the Beautiful Curriculum’s two texts with narrative lessons and historical illustrations the students will complete assignments, keep a timeline, and work through maps. Each unit includes Bible study, vocab, creative writing opportunities, recipes, crafts, games, and more. There will be weekly readings and assignments that the student can do independently or with a parent.

Geography: $20 class cost, $35 additional curriculum cost

This is a course designed to focus on Geography one semester and Mock trial/elections second semester. They will draw maps of the world, learn about the areas, and learn to pray for these areas' specific needs. This gives the student a comprehensive view of the world and where places are so they are better able to understand history. Each week the student will study an area, draw it, learn a new group of geographical features and create a geography journal, learn about the area, and list fun facts at home to share in class the next week.

Physical Science: $90 class cost, $100 additional curriculum cost

Apologia

We will go through the apologia physical science modules and experiments. Taking two weeks for each module we will be able to complete all 15 modules. We will have a time of teaching, reviewing, and experimentation in class each week. The students will be responsible for bringing their student notebook completed to class, being prepared to take tests every other week, and participating in class activities and lessons. This is a great intro to higher level science and study skills needed to complete a successful educational career.

Quarterly Electives: $20 class cost

Drawing:

In this quarter long class, students will learn and practice the fundamentals of drawing through a study of the 5 core elements of art and design. Students will look at historical examples and practice these in their own work. Sketchbook exercises will be assigned each week to give them plenty of opportunity to practice what they are learning. The quarter will culminate with an art display at community day.

9th Grade Course Descriptions:

American History: $20 class cost, $60 additional curriculum cost

We will embark upon a study of the American story with the help of the book, ‘Land of Hope’ by Wilfred M. McClay and the accompanying student workbook that contains over 25 historical documents that students will read and annotate, memorizing key components. They will be exposed to a fresh retelling of our nation’s history, which is especially needed today. It will help shape and deepen their sense of the land they inhabit, help them understand its roots and share in its memories all while equipping them for the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship in American society. This course begins in the late 1400s when the first European settlers arrived and continues through the early 2000s. Extra time will be spent diving deeper into the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. There is also a geography component intertwined, which is crucial to understanding the history of our nation. Students will be graded on weekly quizzes and discussion participation. There will also be two end of semester final exams. Please enjoy this course of study with your students as they learn to think critically beyond just the events of our history to ask questions about reasons, results and consequences.

Exploring Creation with Biology: $100 class cost, $130 additional curriculum cost

In this course students will spend a year exploring God’s living creation using the Apologia 3rd edition biology textbook and accompanying student notebook. Science is a systematic way of learning about the world around you and in this is a rigorous high school science course students will dive deep into creation. At the end of this course students will be rewarded with a strong, broad overview of living organisms and hopefully be more inspired by the wonder of God’s remarkable creation. The course is divided into 16 modules with accompanying experiments that will be completed in class, along with instruction, discussion and assessment. At home, students, with the aid of their homeschool parents are expected to complete the assigned reading and notebook assignments to be prepared for class days. The student notebook will help with time management, note-taking and study skills. Grades will be given at the end of each semester that will be comprised of bi-weekly assessments, student notebook assignments and a final exam. Please remember you are your student’s teacher, please utilize the course syllabus to help your student become a diligent biology student.

Government/Economics/Debate: $25 class cost, $150 additional curriculum cost

Books - Notgrass Government, Penny Candy + Bluestocking Guide, Tour Guide to Debate

Students will study government earning a semester high school credit spread throughout two semesters to accommodate the amount of econ and Debate work. The purpose of Exploring Government is to educate and inspire your students concerning the government of the United States as well as the governments of the individual states and our local communities. We want to help your student be well-equipped as a Christian citizen after studying this material. Exploring Government teaches students how federal, state, and local governments work and explores contemporary issues in government. It places special emphasis on the Biblical basis for government and on the U.S. Constitution. Penny Candy and Bluestocking Guide the students will gain an understanding of basic economics and participate in a stock market project and cost of living project. In debate the students will walk through the process and method of Team Policy Debate. They will learn how to argue well and hear others' arguments well.

Lost Tools of Writing

We will discuss noteworthy literature using The Lost Tools of Writing Level 1 and Comparison essay books, which will aid our students in great persuasive writing. There will be weekly class discussions on the literature along with a time of teaching proper essay writing. We will also do weekly grammar review to continue previously learned skills, read poetry, and dive into Shakespeare. These things will act as enrichment and review for your student. This is a high school level class and your student’s work will be scored based on preparedness and effective writing skills. Grades will be given at the end of each semester along with updates throughout each semester. Please remember you are your student’s teacher, you will take what is learned each week in class along with the syllabus and help your student become a fantastic writer, presenter, and thinker.
